Kager’s hat trick leads Point in AAC win

WEST POINT, Ga. (Oct. 27, 2021) – The Point University women's soccer team scored five goals in the first 24 minutes of action, earning a 5-1 victory over Appalachian Athletic Conference member Columbia College Wednesday afternoon inside River Bowl Stadium.

In the third minute of action, Kelly Carlisle got the Skyhawks on the board off an assist from Nathaly Villalobos. Carmen Kager followed with back-to-back goals in the sixth and 15th minutes, extending Point's lead out 3-0. Marissa Amaya recorded an assist on both of Kager's goals. In the 24th minute, Vanessa Lara padded Point's lead with a goal and Kager secured a hat trick 15 seconds later with her third goal of the game. Amaya also assisted on Kager's third goal.

Kager's hat trick is Point's first hat trick since 2017 and the first hat trick the Skyhawks have had in AAC play since joining the conference in 2012.

The Skyhawks' offense overpowered the Koalas in the first half, outshooting Columbia 12-5. In the second half, the Koalas avoided the shutout with a goal in the 64th minute. The Koalas outshot the Skyhawks in the second half, 8-5.

Skyhawk goalkeeper Erica Burkhardt recorded eight saves and Point forced Columbia's goalkeeper to make six saves. Kager led Point in shot attempts with five, all on goal.

Up next, Point will host Bluefield on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. This will be the Skyhawks' final game of the regular season. The Skyhawks are currently 9-7-1 (9-3-1 AAC) and are tied in fourth with Tennessee Wesleyan in the AAC standings.
