Skyhawks drop nonconference contest to Ave Maria

WEST POINT, Ga. (March 28, 2022) – The Point University women's lacrosse team hosted Ave Maria Monday afternoon in a nonconference matchup inside River Bowl Stadium and fell to the Gyrenes 19-2.

Ave Maria jumped ahead quickly, scoring two goals in the first minute of play. The Gyrenes added four more goals in the first quarter before Point's Sydney Hanna found the back of the net, making the score 6-1. Ave would tack on one more goal before entering the second frame. The Gyrenes would score six goals in the second quarter to enter the second half leading 13-1.

Point's defense would limit Ave Maria to only three goals in the third and fourth quarters. Destinie Claggion would open the fourth quarter with her first goal of the season.

Ave Maria outshot Point 40-14. Hanna, Kaelyn Geathers and Kelli Grimsley led Point with three shots apiece. Claggion and Victoria Cortes followed with two each. In goal, Kayla Bone made 15 saves.

Up next, Point (1-10) will travel to play Huntingdon on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.
