
Women’s Basketball takes down the Knights in road SSAC Showdown
COCHRAN, Ga. (Nov. 23, 2024)—The Point University Women's Basketball team returned to the court for an afternoon Southern States Athletic Conference matchup on the road against Middle Georgia State University. The Skyhawks took the win with a final score of 65-52.
Zaria Johnson opened the scoring column for the Skyhawks with a layup in the paint. The Skyhawks continued to open the first quarter with Jada Williams converting on a layup and Shakira Wilson adding two free throws from the charity stripe. Middle Georgia looked to keep the game close with a shot behind the arc to trail 10-9 in the early going. Shakira Wilson returned the favor with back-to-back three-pointers. On Point's next offensive possession, Mineesha Wallace entered the fray by crashing the boards for the offensive rebound, which was followed by a layup. Antonia Pittman finished the quarter with two free throws to bring Point's lead to 22-13 at the end of the quarter.
Point opened the second period of play by using their momentum to drive to the lane resulting in their next four points coming from the charity stripe. The Knights looked to slow the Skyhawks down as Middle Georgia converted on jump shots to cut into the lead for Point. The Skyhawks continued to stay within the plan of attack with Shakira Wilson breezing past the defense after a forced turnover and following with her signature three-point bomb. Point finished the first half with Jada Williams adding a triple followed by a jumper from Mineesha Wallace to extend Point's lead to 36-21 at the half.
The Knights opened the second half with scoring their first eight points through mid-range jumpers and a three-pointer. The Skyhawks were able to halt any chance of a run from the Knights as Lanee Edwards added a jumper from the high post. Shakira Wilson followed with her third three-pointer of the game to extend the lead to 44-29. Point's defense intensified through the half as Wilson jumped the passing lane for a steal and Aniyah Wesley finished with a fastbreak layup. The Skyhawks used that momentum to hold their lead in the quarter with a 49-37 score.
Mineesha Wallace opened the final period of play by extending the floor as she converted on a three-pointer. Wallace continued her hot second half with a mid-range jumper which forced the Knights to adjust. Point continued to force bad shots on Middle Georgia resulting in two consecutive scores from Jada Williams and Mineesha Wallace. As the Knights looked to go on a late run, Jada Williams' high IQ for steals displayed as she jumped the lane and finished the play with a layup. The game plan was to force turnovers and convert off the mistakes played in their factor of defeating Middle Georgia with a final score of 65-52.

Shakira Wilson led with 18 Points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Mineesha Wallace followed with 16 Points, 11 rebounds, and one steal. Jada Williams added 13 Points, four rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
