WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 11, 2023)- The Point University women's basketball team returned to action on Saturday at the West Point Park Gymnasium for an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup against Columbia College for Senior Day and the Skyhawks finished with a victory with a final score of 73-47.

Mataea Boyd got the Skyhawks on the scoreboard with the smooth layup to the paint, which was followed by the same kind of layup for Marta Gimenez. The Koalas looked to stick around by trading baskets with Point, but the energy from the Skyhawks was on a different level as the strong layup from Ky'Leo Worriels and a three-pointer from Mataea Boyd to bring their lead to 11-4. Columbia quickly fired back with a quick 6-0 run and even cut their deficit to two points at the two-minute mark. The Skyhawks moved their lead back to four as Kyra Hart made the floater to lead 19-15 at the end of the first quarter.

The rack attack from the Skyhawks continued as their next three scores came from layups made by Marta Gimenez, Ananda Hughley, and Mataea Boyd, which brought their lead to 35-24 at the half.

The Skyhawks continued to add to their lead Ky'Leo Worriels scored the first layup for Point. Mataea Boyd helped Point's defense turn it up a notch as she crept into the lane for multiple steals and layups to push their lead to 19. Mirial Cannon's smooth jumpshot was put on display again today as she scored the mid-range jumper to continue the hot streak in the third quarter. Marta Gimenez made her Senior Day count as her three-pointer gave the Skyhawks a 52-24 lead. The lead continued to grow as Ky'Leo Worriels, and Mataea Boyd put the ball in the net for Point to increase the lead to 30. As the quarter ended, the gym erupted as Kyra Hart hit the nothing-but-net three-pointer to bring the lead to 62-32.

Mataea Boyd's hot day was not finished, as she knocked down the first three-pointer of the fourth quarter. Ananda Hughley added with a jump shot that saw the bottom of the net to continue to bolster their lead. Marta Gimenez breezed past the defense for the layup that proved to be the cherry on top of the game. However, the Skyhawks continued to add to their magnificent lead as Alexandria Jackson scored her first collegiate point on a free throw.
