Point Softball Move to a 1-1 Record After the Season Opener Against Lagrange College

WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 4th, 2025) - Point University's women's softball team endured a challenging outing against Lagrange College during their regular season face-off at home. During the first game, the Skyhawks fell 9-1 to the Panthers and in a tightly contested second game, Point claimed a hard-earned victory over Lagrange College with a final score of 2-1.  

Game One (9-1, Loss) 

The Skyhawks, who were keen on making a significant impact at the start, saw Lagrange demonstrate strong gameplay which resulted in a wide margin by the game's conclusion. Kaila Phillips was the lone scorer for the Skyhawks, putting them on the scoreboard with a single run. While efforts were visible on the field, the game seemed to tilt in favor of the Panthers from the early innings. Starting pitcher Kendall Holbrook faced tough opposition but managed to hold her ground despite the challenges throughout the game. 

Game Two (2-1, Win) 

In a tightly contested game, the Point University Skyhawks claimed a hard-earned victory over the Lagrange College Panthers with a final score of 2-1. The win marks a significant achievement for the Skyhawks, improving their season record to an even 1-1. 
 
Skyhawks' fans witnessed a stellar performance from their team, showing resilience and determination. The highlight was the contribution of Brooke Burkett and Isabella Owens, who both scored crucial runs that ultimately led to the team's victory. Amidst cheers from the home crowd, Taylor Gajdik and Kacy Partridge were pivotal figures, each securing a run batted in (RBI), with Gajdik's and Partridge's efforts proving essential in the close contest. 
 
The game, part of the women's college softball's regular season, showcased a strong start from Point University's pitcher Alyssa Burrows, who exhibited control and poise on the mound. The defense and strategic gameplay exhibited by the Skyhawks allowed them to maintain a slight lead throughout the game, culminating in their victory.

The Skyhawks are looking to bounce back and will be focusing on their next challenge as they travel to Columbia, SC, in the Cola Classic tournament. Friday, Feb. 7th, the Skyhawks will first face Rio Grande at 1:30 P.M.
