Point Softball highlights Senior Day with a sweep over Agnes Scott

WEST POINT, Ga. (Apr. 6, 2024) - The Point University Softball team returned to the field for a Saturday afternoon matchup against NCAA Division III, Agnes Scott College where the Skyhawks took the sweep over the Scotties. 

Game One (6-4, Win) 

The Scotties opened the top of the first inning with an RBI single to take the lead with their first run. Agnes Scott held the lead for the following two innings but the Skyhawks came climbing back in the bottom of the third. Hannah Phillips opened with a single to left field which was followed by a single from Ramsey Clark. With Savanna Bryant at bat, the Scottie were unable to retire Bryant from the bat which walked her to first and advanced Phillips home to tie the game. Point took the lead by using her speed to advance home for a 2-1 lead. Agnes Scott added their third run with a double to center field to send a runner home. The Skyhawks returned to the bats with Point adding two runs with Tia Coleman, Savanna Bryant, and Mary Durham advancing home for three runs. Kayden Helton followed with an RBI single to left field which advanced Wellsley Henderson to bring their lead to 6-2. The Scotties added two runs in the top of the sixth but would be unable to secure the comeback. 

Game Two (5-2, Win) 

Point opened the bottom of the first inning with Ramsey Clark's signature bunt to get on base. With Brooke Burkett and Clark on base, Tia Coleman added a single to center field which advanced Ramsey Clark home for the first run. Point added three more runs in the inning as Wellsley Henderson smacked a double to left field which saw Mary Durham, Savanna Bryant, and Tia Coleman advancing home to bring the lead to 4-0. Agnes Scott added a single which turned into a score from a throwing error from right field. The Scotties added their second run from a throwing error from the infield. Skye Loftin's RBI single past the shortstop saw the speed of Mackenzie Diaz sprint home. The Scotties were unable to add another run which saw the Skyhawks take the sweep.
