Point Softball falls in a sweep to #13 Mobile

WEST POINT, Ga. (Mar. 29, 2024) - The Point University Softball team returned to action for a Friday afternoon Southern States Athletic Conference Doubleheader against #13 University of Mobile where the Skyhawks fell to the Rams in a sweep. 

Game One (7-0, Loss) 

The Rams opened the top of the first inning with two base hits and followed with their first run coming from a sacrifice fly. Mobile added their second run as a runner advanced home while another runner was caught stealing to end the inning. Point looked to respond but ended the bottom of the inning with zero hits and no runners left on base. The Rams added to their lead in the top of the second inning with a home run to left field to lead 3-0. Two errors from Mobile in the bottom of the inning put Savanna Bryant and Wellsley Henderson on base. With a runner in scoring position, The Rams were able to third out to avoid giving up a run. Katelyn Jiles went into the third inning and made quick work of the three batters as two outs were fly-outs to left field and the last out was a strikeout. Mobile added another run with a runner on third advancing home as the Skyhawks forced an out on first. Caylee Quarles added a single past the shortstop in the bottom of the fifth inning but the Skyhawks would be unable to create more momentum from the hit. A double from to center field from the Rams scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning and helped end the game with Mobile holding on to win 7-0. 

Game Two (3-0, Loss) 

Game Two opened with the Rams adding their first run in the top of the third inning with an RBI single past second base to advance a runner home. The Skyhawks looked to bring the momentum back on their side but two strikeouts and putout from third to first ended the inning. Offensively, the Rams looked to wipe away their slow start which was put on display with a RBI single to center field to bring their lead to 2-0. The Skyhawks continued to swing their way to try to get on base but the Rams continued to not allow a hit. With Mobile leading 2-0 at the top of the seventh, a single past third base scored another runner. The Rams looked to continue to build on their lead but a strikeout from Alyssa Burrows took both teams to the bottom of the inning. Ramsey Clark landed on first base with a walk but the Rams completed the game with a no-hitter by forcing the following two outs to complete the sweep.

The Skyhawks will return to action against (RV) Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama for an SSAC Doubleheader on Friday, April 5th starting at 3:00 & 5:00 P.M. Eastern.
