Softball falls to the Nighthawks in regular season finale

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (Apr. 18, 2023)- The Point University softball team took a trip to Armory Field, where Point faced off against Thomas University in a non-conference doubleheader where the Nighthawks took the sweep. The Skyhawks lost games one, 11-0, and two, 9-5. 

Game 1- 11-0 LOSS 

The Nighthawks got the fast start they were looking for by adding three runs in the first inning. This momentum carried Thomas through the game with the offensive firepower as the Knighthawks added four runs in the second inning to extend their lead to 8-0. Point's offense would be unable to respond with any runs while Thomas returned with three more runs to end game one in an 11-0 run rule shutout.

Game 2- 9-5 LOSS 

The Nighthawks jumped on the scoreboard by scoring on the SAC fly to bring the score to 1-0 at the end of the first inning. Point responded with a hit from Brianna Plocharcyzk to score Sabrina Russell for the tie. The Skyhawks continued to roll on the offensive side Allie Davis hit the RBI single to score Devon Foster for the 2-1 lead. Thomas regained the momentum by adding five runs in the third inning. Skye Loftin helped start the magic for the Skyhawks in the fourth inning with a walk that scored Brianna Plocharcyzk. Point continued to pressure the Nighthawks when a wild pitch scored Kayla Wyatt to bring their deficit to two. Haley Lyner's sacrifice fly to the right field brought Devon Foster home for the score to have the Skyhawks trailing 6-5 to go into the bottom of the fourth. Thomas tacked on three runs to extend their lead to 9-5. Point would be unable to create any more offense as the Skyhawks dropped the second game for the sweep.

Up Next 

The Skyhawks have wrapped up their 2023 Regular Season and will turn their focus to the AAC Conference Tournament, as Point currently holds the fifth seed. The AAC Tournament will begin on Wednesday, April 26th, and wrap up on Saturday, April 29th, at the Brickyard Ball Fields in Kingsport, Tenn.
