"I'm not crying, you are!" Skyhawks 14 Seniors, Sweep on Senior Day

WEST POINT, Ga. (April 15, 2023) – The Point University softball would play host to Bluefield College (VA) on Saturday in a conference doubleheader. Saturday would also double as Senior Day for the Skyhawks fourteen seniors. The Skyhawks would sweep the doubleheader, winning game one, 6-1 and game two, 3-2.

 

Game 1 – 6-1 WIN

The Skyhawks would get their first run of the game with Haley Lyner would hit a sacrifice fly to center field, that would score Kayla Wyatt to make it 1-0. The offense would connect for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Taylor Knight would start the scoring in the sixth with an RBI single up the middle that would score Lyner to make it 2-0. Gabrielle Riley would hit an RBI single to right field that would score Knight to make it 3-0. Devon Foster would double to right center to score both Riley and Sabrina Russell to make it 5-0.  Alexus Griffin would hit an RBI single in the infield to score Wyatt to make it 6-0. The Rams would score one run in the top of the seventh to make it 6-1, but that wasn't enough as the Skyhawks would take game one, 6-1.

Game 2 – 3-2 WIN

The Rams would get the scoring started in the top of the second when they scored two runs to make it 2-0. The Skyhawks would get one run back in the bottom of the sixth when Taylor Knight would single through the right side to score Hayley Lyner to make it 2-1. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Skyhawks would start their attempt at making a comeback down 2-1. Kayla Wyatt would fly out to right field for the first out and Devon Foster would fly out to center field for the second out. With the Skyhawks down to their last out of the game, McKensie Barnies would get an infield single to extend the inning. Barnes would later advance to second base on a passed ball. Haley Lyner would work a walk to make it runners on second and first with two outs. Taylor Knight would hit an RBI single to right field to score Barnes to tie the game up at 2-2. Allie Davis would have two strikes in her at bat and would put the softball in play. Davis would hit the ball hard to the third baseman, that was missed handled and would allow Lyner to score from third to walk-off Senior Day with a game 2, 3-2 victory and give the Skyhawks a sweep on the day. The play would also go down as one of the most memorable moments in Skyhawk softball history!
