Skyhawks lose afternoon doubleheader at Brenau

Gainesville, Ga. (March 14, 2023) – The Point University softball team played an away at Brenau University and would get swept. The Skyhawks would lose game one, 3-1 and game two, 9-5.

GAME 1 – 3-1 LOSS

The Golden Tigers would score one run in the bottom of the first on a ground out to make it 1-0. Gabrielle Riley would score a run in the top of the fourth off an error by the center fielder to make it 1-1. The Golden Tigers would score two runs from two singles in the bottom of the fifth to make it 3-1. In the top of the seventh, the Skyhawks would get a walk by Devon Foster and a single by Skye Loftin to have runners at first and second with one out. The Skyhawks would be unable to score any runs with one out and lose, 3-1.

 

In the Circle

Ashlynn Hamm would get the start and throw 4.1 innings in the circle allowing three runs on four hits, walk one and striking out two. Chloe Mitcham would come in relief and throw 1.2 innings allowing no runs on two hits.

 

GAME 2 – 9-5 LOSS

The Skyhawks would get the scoring started in the top of the first on an RBI single to center field by Haley Lyner to score Devon Foster to make it 1-0. Alexus Griffin would score on an error by the second baseman to make it 2-0. The Golden Tigers would score one run in the bottom of the first to make it a 2-1 game. Both teams would remain scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when the Golden Tigers had a run explosion, scoring seven runs to make it an 8-2 game. The Golden Tigers would get an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 9-2. The Skyhawks would scratch three runs in the top of the seventh when Taylor Knight would hit a three RBI double, but that wouldn't be enough as the Golden Tigers would win, 9-5.

 

In the Circle

Katelyn Jiles got the start going 4.2 innings in the circle allowing four earned runs on nine hits while walking one and striking out two. Mary Michael Burnham would come in relief going 1.1 innings in the circle allowing one earned run on three hits.

 

Next Game:

The softball team will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee to play a doubleheader against AAC foe, Johnson (Tenn.) on Friday, March 17 with the first pitch scheduled for 2:00 P.M.
