Softball drops two on the road at Brewton-Parker

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. (February 25, 2023) – The Point University softball team played a double header on Saturday on the road, against Brewton-Parker (GA) in a non-conference contest. The Skyhawks would get swept on the day by losing game one, 7-1 and losing game two, 2-1.

 

GAME 1 – 7-1 LOSS

The Barons took care of business in game one, scoring seven runs on seven hits while Point added four errors that helped to the offense of the Barons. In the bottom of the second, the Barons would hit an infield single that would score two runners to make it 2-0. The Barons would than add a two-run bomb in the bottom of the third inning to left field to make it 4-0. The Skyhawks would get their only run of game one, when Allie Davis would hit a solo homer to left field to make it 4-1. The Barons would get three more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the 7-1 victory.

 

In the Circle

Mary Michael Burnham would start game one, six innings while allowing seven runs with four runs earned off of seven hits. Burnham would also walk three batters and add a strikeout to her stat line. With today's loss, that brings Burnham's record to 2-3 on the season.

 

Offensive Leaders

Allie Davis – 2 for 3; HR, RBI, R

Haley Lyner – 2 for 4

 

GAME 2 – 2-1 LOSS

The Skyhawks would score in the top of the first when Taylor Knight would hit an RBI single that would score Haley Lyner. That 1-0 lead would be lost in the bottom of the third when the Barons would single in one of their runners to make it 1-1. The Barons would get the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth off a double to left field that would make it 2-1. The Skyhawks would go down in order with three flyouts to the outfield to get swept by Brewton-Parker with the game 2 loss, 2-1.

Taylor Knight – 1 for 2; RBI single

 

In the Circle

Katelyn Jiles would throw six innings giving up two earned runs on five hits, while striking out four and walking no batters. Jiles would take the loss and her record would move to 2-4 on the season.

 

The Point Skyhawks will be home this week on Wednesday, March 1 against Tennessee Wesleyan for their first AAC conference games with the first pitch of the doubleheader at 2:00 P.M.
