Softball drops both games at Stillman

TUSCALOOSA, Al. (February 10, 2023) – The Point University softball team played a road doubleheader on Friday at Stillman College. The Skyhawks would lose both games by scores of 6-1 and 3-2.  

In Game 1, the Skyhawks would send Mary Michael Burnham to the circle for the start after the offense didn't score in the top of the first. Burnham would pitch three innings, giving up 3 earned runs and walking one. She would be relieved by Ashlynn Hamm in the fourth inning and the Barons were able to tack on three runs with one being earned from Hamm.

 The Tigers would get the scoring started in the first inning, when they would get a run to cross the plate after an infield error to make it 1-0. The Tigers would get two more runs in the second inning from a RBI bunt single and a RBI infield single to make it 3-0. The Skyhawks would get their only run of the game in the top of the fourth when Skye Loftin would a solo home run to center field that would make it a 3-1 game. The Tigers would score three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make sure they secured the win in game one by a score of 6-1.

The Skyhawks would score one run on six hits and commit two error in the field.

Losing Pitch – Mary Michael Burnham (0-1)

 

In Game 2, the Skyhawks would fall 3-2. They would score two runs off of eight hits in the game and commit no errors in the field.

Both teams were held scoreless after the first two innings of the contest. The Skyhawks would score two runs in the third inning. Tia Coleman would score on a wild pitch and Kayla Wyatt would get a RBI groundout to score Alexus Griffin to make it 2-0. The Tigers would score three runs in the bottom of the third inning and would hold on for the 3-2 victory.

In the circle, Katelyn Jiles would keep the Skyhawks in the game by throwing six innings, scattering five hits, striking out two, allowing no walks and giving up three earned runs.

Point returns to action at home this Wednesday, February 15, when they host non-conference opponent, Clark Atlanta. First pitch of the double header starting at 3:00 P.M. EST.
