Cross Country wraps up regular season at the Firehawk Invitational

FLORENCE, Ala. (Oct. 20, 2023) - The Point University Men's and Women's Cross Country team returned to action for their final regular season meet before the SSAC Championships on Friday, October 20th where the Men's side placed in 6th place and the Women's team did not receive a team score. 

The day started off with the men. Joshua Beam led the Skyhawks with a 14th-place finish and a season-best time of 26:55.5.  

Elijah Pace finished with a time of 27:36.8 placing 23rd. Not far behind was freshmen duo Jesse Baldwin (27:48) and Lane Thompson (27:57), placing 28th and 29th. Rounding out the scoring five was Ian Dougherty placing 31st with a time of 28:04.  

  

Thompson's 27:57 was a 34-second personal record and the first time the freshman had broken the 28-minute barrier.  

The men's scoring five had a team average of 27:40.58 which is the 3rd fastest team average in school history and the fastest since 2020. 

  

The women followed suit with Anna Brown running a time of 25:46.2 in the 6k. A 2 minute and 14 second personal record making her the 5th fastest 6k time in school history.  

Ashley Bowden finished with a personal record time of 27:44.3. Kyah Campbell crossed the line in 30:09.8 and following close behind was Christyauna Beasley with a time of 30:13.3
