Point Swim creates first impressions at the Piedmont Meet

TALLULAH, Ga. (Sept. 23, 2023) - The Point University Men's and Women's swimming teams kicked off their 2023-24 Campaign with their first meet at the Piedmont University meet, where both teams placed 2nd. 

The meet started with the women's team placing second on the 200-yard medley relay with a group of Gabriella Pinheiro, Teagan Jose, Madison Akbari, and Samantha Pasley. The Men's 200 Medley Relay followed where Point put together two relay teams, with the first relay team placing 2nd, which featured a team of Josiah Blair, Yurri Prokopchuk, Gonzalo Rojas, and Jasper Mpofu, and the second team placed 3rd which featured Logan Jones, William Kelly, Mitchell Crane, and Rayden Hector. Josiah Blair was featured in the 1000-yard freestyle, where he placed third. In the Women's 200-yard freestyle, Teagan Jose kicked off her sophomore season with first place, finishing with a time of 2:08.45. Yurri Prokopchuk returned to prominence with a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.70 seconds. Samantha Pasley competed in the 50-yard and placed eighth with a time of 33.12 seconds. In the men's 50-yard freestyle, Jasper Mpofu, Logan Jones, Luke Johnson, and Mitchell Crane each represented Point in the event, with Mpofu finishing with a time of 22.80 seconds in third place, Jones finishing with a time of 23.39 seconds in fourth place and Crane finishing at 23.90 seconds in ninth place. Johnson placed in 15th place with a time of 28.64 seconds. Madison Akabri continued to make an impact in her first collegiate meet as she had a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.52 seconds. Teagan Jose and Gabrielle Pinherio also contributed with a top-five finish, with Jose placing third with 59.43 seconds and Pinheiro placing fifth with a time of 1:04.39. In the Men's 100-yard freestyle, the Skyhawks had three swimmers in a top-six finish. Josiah Blair placed first with a time of 50.20 seconds, Rayden Hector placed fifth with a time of 53.87 seconds, and William Kelly placed sixth with 54.06 seconds.  

The meet continued with Logan Jones competing in the 500 freestyle, placing fifth at 5:34.78. Luke Johnson followed with a sixth-place finish and a 7:06.25 time. Madison Akbari made a splash with a first-place finish in the 100-yard Butterfly with a final time of 1:04.22. Point added another first-place finish, with Jasper Mpofu leading the charge with a 55.65 second time. Mitchell Crane also competed in the 100-yard butterfly and finished with a third-place finish and a 57.92 second time. Point finished in second place for the 400-yard freestyle relay on the women's side with a 4:17.6 time. On the men's side, Point had two teams compete; the first team finished in third place with a final time of 3:29.27, and the second team placed fourth with a final time of 3:30.96.
