Swim opens 2022-23 campaign at Emmanuel College meet

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. (Oct. 8, 2022) - The Point University men's and women's swim team cracked open their 2022-23 Saturday morning at the Emmanuel College Fall invite in Franklin Springs, Georgia.  

On the women's side, Emmanuel defeated Point 158-18, and on the men's side, the Lions finished with a score of 163 compared to the Skyhawks' 39. Emmanuel College came into the fall season as favorites to win in the preseason poll and is a two-time defending champion in their respective conference for Division II.  

Head Coach Derek Kite is entering his fifth season for the Skyhawks' swimming program and is confident in the swimmers he has that can compete at a high level all season.  

The men's team features nine returners, with four newcomers and two seniors. Coach Kite has praised the men's side for their efforts to compete daily along with the unity to always cheer each other on.  

This past weekend, Jacob Copeland highlighted his collegiate career with a Personal best with a time of 22:60 in the 50 Freestyle. Freshman, Gonzalo Rojas, started the season off with a bang by breaking a school record with a time of 2:06.66 in the 200 IM. 

The women's team returns Nica Pretorius, who has already created a great resume for herself as a Skyhawk swimmer. Overall, the women's team features two seniors and three freshmen. Newcomer, Teagan Jose, opened her collegiate debut in the best way by breaking a school record with a time of 1:12.35 in the 100 Breast.  

The Skyhawks will dive back into action Saturday, Oct. 15, in a tri-match series against Thomas University and Georgia State.
