Simon Niksch crowned as the SSAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
WEST POINT, Ga. (Sept. 2, 2024) - The Southern States Athletic Conference announced the Player of the Week honors on Monday, September 2nd. Simon Niksch has found himself with great recognition due to his recent play in goal against Reinhardt University. Niksch was named the Southern States Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Men's Soccer.
The Senior from Munich, Germany has opened the Season with great impact as he completed his first shutout of the season against former Appalachian Athletic Conference rival, Reinhardt University. After an injury-riddled season in 2023, Niksch has been better than ever in the 2024 Season where he has already tallied eight saves. Coaches Mark Wozniak and Barrett Smith are confident that his first two games of the season are just a sneak peek of what he is projected to do for the rest of the season. In the game against the Eagles, Simon Niksch showed 110% with game-clinching saves that could have flipped the game's result otherwise. On one possession, Simon Niksch dove for a save and the Eagles took another shot on goal where he followed with a back-tock-to-back. As he looks to grow in his Senior Year, Niksch wants to continue adding contributions to his team on the defensive end with a full healthy season. For Men's Soccer, many more tests and big moments will come in the season with more recognitions on the way. This is Simon Niksch's first weekly honor.
