Men’s Soccer fall to Milligan on the road

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (Sept. 17, 2022) - The Point University men's soccer team took a quick trip to Milligan University to face the Buffaloes in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup and would fall short 4-2.

The Skyhawks started the match with a few quick shots on goal but would not be able to convert as Milligan's defense did not flinch. The Buffaloes quickly found their way on the scoreboard as Milligan scored their first goal of the game after their fifth shot on goal. Point continued to show consistent effort with their offensive game plan, hoping to set themselves up for success to get onto the scoreboard. A yellow card from Milligan set up a free kick for the Skyhawks, which was converted as Brandon Cervantes scored the first goal for Point to bring the score to 1-1. Three minutes later, the Buffaloes responded with their offensive firepower for another goal to take the lead 2-1 to go into the half.

In the second half, Milligan's offense flowed at a steady pace as they created a plan to take the game out of reach. The Buffaloes followed that plan by scoring their third goal of the game while also freezing Point's offense to only five shots on goal in the half. Five minutes later, Milligan followed up with their fourth goal to extend the lead to 4-1. The Skyhawks looked to find a spark on the offensive end after a slow start to half, which set up two corner kicks by Zane Whitehead. Another yellow card by the Buffaloes created another free kick for Point, which was scored by Max Paul Busnel to bring the score to 4-2. Nearing the end of the match, Milligan would not allow another shot by Point as the final buzzer sounded.
