Skyhawks unable to contain the Running Eagles' fiery second half

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (Sep. 5, 2022) – The Point University men's soccer team returned to the pitch Monday afternoon in Lawrenceville, Ga., for the Grizzly Labor Day Classic facing Life University in a nonconference matchup falling 4-1.

In the first period of play, Point looked to gain early momentum with bringing the intensity on defense against the unbeaten Running Eagles. Life would not shy away from the defense as they took four quick shots on goal within the first 19 minutes of play. The Skyhawks gained the early momentum as Luca Ganio-Mego scored a goal to put Point in the lead 1-0. 15 minutes later, a foul in the box by the Skyhawks would allow Wilfried Tchoupa Kam for Life to score a penalty kick to tie the game 1-1 going into the half.

The second half saw the Running Eagles take the leap they needed as Wilfried Tchoupa Kam scored his second goal of the game within the first four minutes of the half to bring Life University ahead 2-1. The Skyhawks looked to try to find their way on the offensive end, but the Running Eagles remained solid. Capitalizing off the defensive force, Life scored another goal to bring the lead to 3-1 to keep their run going. Point remained cold in the second half as they were unable to get many shots on goal throughout the half. With two minutes remaining in the match, Life continued their hot streak scoring another goal to make the lead 4-1 which would end up being the final score.

Point took three total shots which were all on goal compared to Life's 21 total shots and 13 on goal. Tommy Eskew, Fabian Saborio, and Luca Ganio-Mego each took a shot on goal with Ganio-Mego scoring the lone goal for the Skyhawks. Niels Van Gool recorded nine saves for Point.
