Men’s Lacrosse strikes past Warren Wilson for second consecutive win

WEST POINT, Ga. (Mar. 19, 2024) - The Point University Men's Lacrosse returned to action for a nonconference game against NCAA Division III, Warren Wilson College at the River Bowl Stadium where the Skyhawks took the win over the Owls with a final score of 12-2. 

The first quarter saw the Skyhawks' offense surge with Jeff Knapp scoring the first five goals to put the Skyhawks ahead with a 5-0 lead. Wesley Jones followed by picking up a groundball and sprinting past the defense on the field to score his first career collegiate goal to move Point's lead to six. The first quarter ended with Thomas Van Alstine connecting with Lonnie Flores Jr. To bring the lead to 7-0. The second quarter continued with the Skyhawks controlling the pace on offense as Jack Koenn added to Point's lead as the Skyhawks scored another goal. Dalton Messer entered the fray by taking his opportunity with a shot on frame which was successful to extend the lead to 9-0. Warren Wilson would not end the half scoreless as the Owls added their first goal to trail by eight at the half. The second half saw multiple scores from different players on Point as Mitchell Gossett scored the first goal of the third quarter which was assisted by Jack Koenn. The Owls responded with another score to trail 10-2 with hopes of halting the Skyhawks from adding another score. Teagan Simons added a new stat on his line as Mitchell Gossett connected with Simons to extend the lead to 11-2. The final score of the game was Jeremiah Menzies using his strength and speed to sprint past the Owls bringing the final score to 12-2. 

In the Box 

Jeff Knapp led with five goals, five groundballs, and four faceoff wins. Mitchell Gossett, Jack Koenn, Jeremiah Menzies, Dalton Messer, Lonnie Flores Jr., Wesley Jones, and Teagan Simons each scored a goal as well for the Skyhawks. Djuan Toomer led the Skyhawks with eight groundballs on the evening. In goal, Teagan Simons added three saves and Logan Slagle added four.
