Men’s Lacrosse falls to SCAD Savannah in Home Opener

WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 18, 2022)- The Point University Men's Lacrosse team returned to action for their first home game at the River Bowl Stadium in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup against SCAD Savannah, where they would fall short with a final score of 14-7.

The first period saw the Bees jump on the scoreboard first as SCAD took the early lead in the first three minutes. Point did not shy away from the early pressure as the Skyhawks went on a 3-0 run as Jeff Knapp, Shaun McLaughlin, and Malyke Sillers were responsible for putting the Skyhawks in the lead. SCAD continued to follow their game plan as the first quarter ended with two goals scored to tie the game at three.

The second period started with an instant score from the Bees which helped SCAD take the lead, but that would not last long when Jeff Knapp scored his second game goal to tie the contest back at four. As the Skyhawks looked to ride the momentum with hopes of taking the lead again, SCAD Savannah countered with three goals on their end to take a three-point lead at the half, which put the Skyhawks on their heels. After halftime, The Bees did not stop their run as they continued to push the lead ahead by tacking on three more goals.

Malyke Sillers ended the Bees' run by taking the goal towards the end of the run from SCAD Savannah by scoring two goals to try to bring the game back within reach. Jeremiah Menzies looked to answer the bell by breezing past the defense and scoring his first goal of the season, which helped Point move closer. SCAD Savannah wiped away any chance that Point had at a comeback as they added two more scores to their lead to bring the score to 14-6. Shaun McLaughlin scored the final goal for the Skyhawks toward the end of the game, but Point would not be able to get any more scores on the board.
