Men’s Lacrosse falls short on the road to Oglethorpe

BROOKHAVEN, Ga. (Feb. 11, 2023)- The Point University Men's Lacrosse team returned to action on Saturday on the road against Oglethorpe for a nonconference matchup which saw the Skyhawks hang in there but would be unable to get the victory.

The Stormy Petrels did not waste time by getting the first goal in the game, but Point showed retaliation instantly as Jeff Knapp scored the first two goals for the Skyhawks to take the lead. 16 seconds later, Oglethorpe found a way to bring it to a tie with another goal on their end. Neither team would score again in the first quarter, which would get the game to 2-2 at the end of the first quarter.

The Stormy Petrels did not waste time taking the lead again as Oglethorpe got on the board intending to put Point on their heels. Instead of a response, the Skyhawks continued to find answers to get the game back in their hands, which worked in their favor when Jeff Knapp scored his third game goal. Oglethorpe did not let the score from the Skyhawks freeze their momentum as they added to their response by ending the second quarter with two more goals scored on their side to take a 5-3 lead at the half.

Jeff Knapp's fiery day continued to show as he scored his fourth goal of the game within seconds of 3rd quarter. His dominant play seemed to put the opposition on their heels, but Oglethorpe did not let that stop their game plan as the Stormy Petrels pushed their lead back to two with another score. The Skyhawks continued to ride the hot hand of Jeff Knapp when he scored his FIFTH goal of the game to try to do everything he could to get Point within distance. The Stromy Petrals ended the quarter on a 3-0 run to move their lead to 9-5 going into the fourth.

The final quarter saw Oglethorpe score the first two goals before the Skyhawks ended their run by getting some momentum back on their side. Corey Gulledge and Malyke Sillers brought the game to four points in the last five minutes of play, but Point would be able to move the Stormy Petrels as they scored their final goal to win 12-7.
