Men’s lacrosse drops road contest to No. 3 Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (April 6, 2022) – The Point University men's lacrosse team traveled to No. 3 University of the Cumberlands Wednesday afternoon and fell to the Patriots 25-3 in their final Appalachian Athletic Conference contest.

The Patriots jumped out to a 5-0 lead before senior Jassiem Josse got the Skyhawks on the board with an assist from Malyke Sillers. Cumberlands would go on to score seven goals in the first quarter to take a 12-1 lead entering the second quarter.

The Patriots added six more goals in the second quarter and did not allow Point to score to enter the second half ahead 18-1. The Skyhawks struck first in the second half, with a goal from Jeremiah Menzies (18-2). The Cumberlands answered with a goal a little over a minute later. Sillers would answer the Patriots with a goal a minute later. This would be Point's final goal of the game as Cumberlands went on to score three goals in the third quarter and three in the fourth quarter.

The Patriots outshot the Skyhawks 45-14 and won 20 face-offs compared to Point's 12. Sillers led Point with one goal and one assist and took six shots, four on frame. Josse followed with one goal, one assist, five shots and four on frame. Josse and Sillers led the team with five and three groundballs, respectively. Josse also led the team with eight face-off wins. In goal, Kiereek McLeod recorded 10 saves.

Point will compete in their final game of the season on Sunday, as they travel to play Kennesaw State's club team at 2 p.m. That game will not count towards their win/loss record, as the Skyhawks officially end the 2022 season 1-12 (1-6 AAC).
