Men’s Basketball drops tight matchup to the Running Eagles in road SSAC Play
MARIETTA, Ga. (Jan. 4, 2025) - The Point University Men's Basketball team returned to the court in Marietta, Georgia for an in-state road Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against Life University where the Skyhawks fell to the Running Eagles with a final score of 80-71.
The first half opened with the Skyhawks going two-for-two behind the arc as Jeremiah Smith and Vince Graves each converted their shots. Life responded with an 11-3 run to put the Skyhawks on their heels in the early going. Mike Evans and Jacob Crockett halted the run with back-to-back triples to cut into the Running Eagles' lead. The Skyhawks continued to let it fly from the three-point line with Vince Graves, Mike Evans, and Tanner Higgins adding three consecutive triples to take their first lead at 23-22. The offense from Point continued to flow with Sam Rees scoring on the backdoor layup. Point's run continued to build with back-to-back triples from Jeremiah Smith and Mike Evans to bring Point's lead to eight. The lead grew to 41-29 with Antwon Ferrell entering the fray with a three-pointer which gave Life trouble trying to guard the Skyhawks. Brandon Kincaid capped off the first half by cutting to the lane for a dunk to bring Point's lead to 43-36 at the half.
The action picked up in the second half with Running Eagles opening with a 9-2 run to tie the game at 45. The Skyhawks responded with Mike Evans and Jacob Crockett adding back-to-back triples to regain the lead by two. The lead continued to stay on the Skyhawks' side with Brandon Kincaid powering through the lane for a layup followed by a three-pointer from Sam Rees. The Running Eagles began to force multiple turnovers and convert on three-pointers to regain the lead. Life's lead grew to 76-69 as the Running Eagles added a 6-0 run. Vince Graves converted on a tough mid-range jumper to cut the lead to five but Life held off the Skyhawks in the final minute.

Mike Evans and Vince Graves led with 12 Points apiece with Graves adding six rebounds and two blocks. Evans had five rebounds and one steal. Antwon Ferrell followed with nine points, three assists, and one steal.
