Men's basketball falls to the Lions on the road

HENDERSON, Tn (Dec. 30, 2022) – The Point University men's basketball team returned to action Friday evening for their non-conference away contest against Freed-Hardeman and fell 96-71.

 

The Lions would get the scoring started by taking a 4-0 lead on their first two possessions coming off of turnovers by the Skyhawks. Justice Hayes would nail a three-pointer to cut the lead to one. After back-to-back made shots by Jake Smith, would give the Skyhawks a 7-6 lead at 6:41 mark of the first half. This would be the only time the Skyhawks would lead throughout the rest of the game. After a made jump shot by the Lions, they would head to the locker room up on the Skyhawks by a score of 41-27.

 

The Skyhawks would get the scoring started first in the second half with Gentrell Taylor making one of his free throws after getting fouled to make it a 41-28 score. The Lions would go up by 31 points at the 6:45 mark in the second half. The Skyhawks would continue to fight to close the gap.  After a made jump shot by Benjamin Ross with 34 seconds remaining in the second half, the Lions would dribble the ball out for the last few seconds of the game to give Freed-Hardeman the 96-71 victory. A huge factor in this game for Freed-Hardeman were their 27 points off of the sixteen Skyhawks turnovers in the game. Freed-Hardeman will move to a record of 13-2 and the Skyhawks will move to a record of 8-7 overall.

 

In the box  

RJ Selman led all Skyhawks in scoring with his 18 points, while also adding two rebounds, an assist and went 3 for 4 from the charity stripe coming off the bench. Benjamin Ross was the other Skyhawk in double digits with 10 points, while also adding three rebounds, a steal and went 2 for 2 from the charity stripe coming off the bench like Selman.

The Skyhawks shot 46.4% (26 of 56) from the floor, 46.7% (7 of 15) from three-point land and 70.6% (12 of 17) at the charity stripe.
