
Point Football falls to Bluefield on Last Second Field Goal
BLUEFIELD, Va. (Nov. 16, 2024)—The Point University Football team returned to the field for its regular-season finale, a road Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup against Bluefield University. The Skyhawks fell to the Rams with a final score of 18-17.
Bluefield entered the scoring column first as the Rams added a 43-yard field goal to take the lead with a score of 3-0. Point's offense took the lead with Mitchell Gossett connecting with Nicholas Marien for a 40-yard touchdown. Logan Wandzilak's point after the try added to the lead to bring it to 7-3. The Rams looked to get into the endzone by moving the ball on offense but would have to settle for a field goal to trail by one. As both teams entered the second quarter, Bluefield's offense was held out of the endzone as Point forced them to kick another field goal which was enough for the Rams to take the lead. The Skyhawks returned to the field and moved the ball on the ground with multiple rushes from Treyvon Copeland. Point finished the drive with Mitchell Gossett connecting with Quintravious Teasley for a 13-yard touchdown to regain the lead. Bluefield's offense looked to put together a drive with tempo through the air but Reggie Hill jumped in front of a pass for a 27-yard interception return. Point's offense looked to move into scoring territory which did enough to secure a 20-yard field goal from Logan Wandzilak to go into halftime leading 17-9.
The action picked up in the second half as Bluefield converted on their first touchdown with a five-yard pass in the endzone. The Rams looked to go for a two-point conversion but would be unable to convert where they now trailed 17-15. Point looked to regain control on offense with a 35-yard completion to Quintravious Teasley to move the ball closer to the promised land. Bluefield's defense forced a field goal that was missed to the right to keep the game at 17-15. The Rams struck on a 12-play drive where Bluefield finished the game with a game-winning field goal to bring the final score to 18-17.

Mitchell Gossett led the passing game throwing 21-for-36 with 235 passing yards and two touchdowns. Trevyon Copeland led the running game with 12 rushes and 42 yards. Adam Sanders added eight rushes for 32 yards. Quintravious Teasley led the receiving core with six catches for 87 yards and one touchdown. Payton Allen followed with six catches for 65 yards. Nicholas Marien added five catches for 62 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Jakari Nobles and Ethan Binns led with eight tackles. Kemorion Larkin and Kassidy Deans followed with seven tackles. Cortez Thomas added six tackles, one sack, and one tackle for loss.
