Cortez Thomas earns AAC Defensive Player of the Week after Historic Weekend.

WEST POINT, Ga. (Oct. 21, 2024)—The Appalachian Athletic Conference announced Player of the Week awards, and Cortez Thomas earned his second career Defensive Player of the Week award.

The Junior from Cordele, Georgia, gave St. Andrews University a lot of trouble as he finished the game with eight tackles (four solo and four assisted), two sacks, five tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. Thomas' five tackles for loss set a new school record for the most tackles for loss in a single game, and his performance also follows in the AAC Record books. Thomas is an offensive lineman nightmare with his quickness and strength on the line. Cortez Thomas set his sights on even better performances and could end the season with multiple program records. Since Thomas stepped foot at Point University in 2023, he has worked to be one of the most impactful players for the Skyhawks and in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. His personality to keep everyone around him together while having monster numbers is already a reason why he already has a First Team All-Conference accolade on his resume. With how Cortez Thomas is performing, he could find himself on that list for the second time at the end of the season, with accolades to come. This is his first weekly honor of the season and his second career weekly honor.
