Point Football Claws past the Knights on the road

Laurinburg, N.C. (Oct. 19, 2024)—The Point University football team traveled to the Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup against St. Andrews University, where the Skyhawks won 40-12.

 

The Skyhawks opened the first quarter with a two-yard rushing touchdown from Adam Sanders. The point after Matthew Moses, 7-0, scored a try. The Skyhawks crossed the goal line once more in the second quarter with a 32-yard touchdown pass from Mitchell Gossett to Shawn Jones Jr., along with another extra point made by Matthew Moses. These two scores took the game into halftime 14-0. Kicking off the second half, St. Andrews got on the board with a touchdown, but with a failed two-point conversion, the score became 14-6. Answering back to St. Andrews, the Skyhawks rushed for two yards into the endzone 20-6, missing the extra point. St. Andrews tries to fight back into the game with another touchdown and no extra points, 20-12. The fourth quarter arrived, and it was all Skyhawk touchdowns, with Mitchell Gossett connecting with Paul Burkly for a nine-yard touchdown, followed by a one-yard touchdown rush for Adam Sanders, and finally a three-yard rushing touchdown for Anthony Ruff, ending the game 40-12.

Mitchell Gossett threw 12-for-23 with 109 passing yards, 87 rushing yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Adam Sanders had 62 yards on the ground with 15 attempts and two touchdowns. Adding to rushing stats, Treyvon Copeland has seven attempts, 30 yards, and one touchdown. Quintravious Teasley led the team in the air with 35 yards and three catches. Shawn Jones Jr. assisted with air support with two catches, 31 yards, and one touchdown. Cortez Thomas led the charge on defense with four solo tackles, four assists, two sacks, five tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. Jakari Nobles with 2 solo tackles and five assists.

The Skyhawks will have a bye week next week. Following that, they will have homecoming against the University of Pikeville at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Ram Stadium in Valley, Ala.
