Point Football falls to NCAA Div. II, Allen University on the road

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. (Sept. 21, 2024) - The Point University Football team returned to the field for a non-conference matchup against NCAA Division II, Allen University where the Skyhawks fell to the Yellow Jackets with a final score of 35-10. 

Allen University opened the first quarter with all the momentum as the Yellow Jackets took an early 21-0 lead with two touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown. As the second quarter opened, Mitchell Gossett connected in the air with Quintravious Teasley for a 20-yard gain. Gossett followed with an eight-yard rush up the middle to continue moving the ball. Multiple pass completions to Wesley Jones Jr. And Payton Allen were enough to put the Skyhawks in scoring territory but the Yellow Jackets were able to hold out. Logan Wandzilak would make the 29-yard field goal attempt to give the Skyhawks three points. As Allen took the field and looked to move the ball, Kassidy Deans ended the drive with an interception giving the ball back to the Skyhawk offense. As the half continued, Point completed four consecutive passes to Adam Sanders, Quintravious Teasley, and Wesley Jones Jr. After a spike, Gossett connected with Nicholas Marien in the air for a 17-yard completion. With the half-ending, Mitchell Gossett sprinted into the endzone for a two-yard touchdown. Logan Wandzilak's point after the try would be successful in bringing the score to 21-10 at the half. The Yellow Jackets opened the third quarter with an 88-yard kickoff return touchdown to extend their lead to 28-10. The Skyhawks were unable to put together another scoring drive through the second half and would fall to Allen University with a final score of 35-10. 

In the Box 

Under Center, Mitchell Gossett went 20-for-34 and threw for 170 passing yards with one interception. Gossett also led the rushing attack with 13 rushes, 26 yards, and one touchdown. In the air, Quintravious Teasley led with eight catches for 69 yards. Nicholas Marien followed with four catches and 49 yards. Defensively, Cortez Thomas led with six tackles, two sacks, and four tackles for loss. Ethan Binns also followed with six tackles on the evening.
