Point Football falls to Reinhardt in AAC play

WALESKA, Ga. (Nov. 5, 2022) -The Point University football team traveled to Reinhardt University Saturday evening for an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup against the Eagles, where they were unable to move past Reinhardt with a score of 48-21.

For the first 10 minutes of the game, both teams were scoreless. Reinhardt quickly wiped the narrative away by scoring two touchdowns on the Skyhawks to end the quarter with a 14-0 lead. Point went into the second quarter with hopes of finding a response to the Eagles but could get their offense moving. The Eagles were able to not give up a third-down conversion throughout the entire game, which helped halt the Skyhawks' offense. With under 10 minutes left in the half, Reinhardt added to their momentum of defensive stops with another scoring drive on offense. Bryce Burgess finished the Eagles' drive with a 2-yard touchdown run to push their lead to 21-0. The second quarter of Point's offense continued to be frozen by the Eagles as they were held scoreless going into the half. The three-and-outs also saw the Skyhawks' defense has to be on the field more than they would have preferred. With 2:26 left in the half, the Eagles did not slow down their fast start as Hunter Arters completed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Jake Wallace. This touchdown was followed by another completion in the endzone from Hunter Arters for a five-touchdown lead going into halftime.

The third quarter for Point started to show signs of life as they started to force their way into the scoring territory but were unable to finish their drive. The Skyhawks on defense were able to limit the scoring in the quarter as they only allowed one touchdown, which occurred in the final four seconds of the period. With Reinhardt leading 41-0 in the final period of play, the Skyhawks' defense forced a fumble which resulted in a 26-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Roman Jones. The field goal by Giovanni Martinez was good as Point now had their first score of the game to avoid the shutout. On offense for the Skyhawks, their cold streak of being out of the endzone was broken after Austin Adcock connected with Emery Bryant for an 18-yard touchdown pass. Point did not show any quit on their end as the defense continued to force stops which helped set up the offense for another offensive scoring drive. With under four minutes left in the game, Austin Adcock aired out a long 52-yard bomb to Jarrod Posey for a touchdown. On the next drive for Reinhardt, the Eagles put out the fire for Point with a 60-yard touchdown run on their first play of the drive. This resulted in the final score being 48-21, with Reinhardt winning the bout in conference play.
