Skyhawks takes the series against the Knights

Cochran, Ga.(Feb. 28- Mar. 1, 2025)- The Point University Baseball team hit the road this weekend for another Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against Middle Georgia State where Skyhawks clawed the Knights 2-1.

Game One (loss 25-9)

In the recent Southern States Athletic Conference baseball outing on February 28, 2025, the Point University Skyhawks faced a tough game against the Middle Georgia State Knights in Cochran, GA. The Skyhawks ended up on the losing side with a final score of 25-9 under sunny skies.

The game was particularly challenging for Point University as Middle Georgia State took an early lead by scoring heavily in the 2nd and 3rd innings. The 2nd inning featured a devastating 9-run effort from the Knights, including a 3-run homer, a solo home run, and also contributed a grand slam in the 3rd inning, which saw the Knights pulling further away with an additional 6 runs.

On a brighter note for the Skyhawks, several players made significant contributions. Keegan Moore reached base twice and Jaden Mazzaferro drove in two runs with a single in the 3rd inning. Other contributors included Rafael Jackson and Daniel Gonzalez, each scoring two runs, and several players adding to the RBI count, notably Mazzaferro who brought in three runs.

Game Two ( Win 13-4)

The victory was marked by an outstanding performance from the team, showcasing their dominance both offensively and defensively.

Leading the charge for the Skyhawks, Harris Burns took the mound as the starting pitcher, delivering a strong performance that set the tone for the game. The batting lineup was equally impressive, with multiple players contributing to the score. Michael Buckley, Rafael Jackson, Daniel Gonzalez, Zavion Anderson, Jaden Mazzaferro, Brady Bye, Keegan Moore, and Chris Mancill all crossed the plate, lighting up the scoreboard for Point University.

Jaden Mazzaferro, Zavion Anderson, Keegan Moore, Brady Bye, Sam Baker, Daniel Gonzalez, and Rafael Jackson were pivotal in driving runs, ensuring the Skyhawks capitalized on their batting opportunities. Noteworthy performances included Rafael Jackson with three hits, two runs, and one RBI; Daniel Gonzalez with two hits, two runs, and one RBI; and Brady Bye, whose one hit and one run included a double and a game-high three RBIs. Keegan Moore also made significant contributions with his agility, stealing two bases and scoring twice.

Game Three (16-8)

From the outset, the Skyhawks demonstrated their dominance, leveraging clear weather conditions to execute a flawless offensive game plan. Key players such as Rafael Jackson, Daniel Gonzalez, and Zavion Anderson each contributed three runs, significantly impacting the final score. Outstanding performances came from Rafael Jackson, who not only scored three times but also hit a critical 3-run homerun. Daniel Gonzalez matched the intensity with his own homerun, reinforcing the Skyhawks' powerful lineup.

On the mound, starting pitcher Houston Wedgeworth held the Knights at bay, setting the stage for the Skyhawks' hitters to shine. The game reached an undeniable climax during the 7th inning when the Skyhawks launched a 7-run attack, highlighted by the back-to-back homeruns from Jackson and Gonzalez.
