Road win at Tuskegee moves Point Baseball’s win streak to eight in a row

TUSKEGEE, Ala. (Apr. 17, 2024) - The Point University Baseball returned to the field for an afternoon non-conference matchup against NCAA Division II, Tuskegee University where the Skyhawks took the win with a final score of 12-2 in seven innings. 

Point opened the top of the first inning with Daniel Gonzalez being walked and stealing second to put early pressure on the Golden Tigers. A sacrifice fly to center field from Slade Mink sent Gonzalez home for the first run to put Point in the lead. Joshua Castillo made quick work of Tuskegee as the Skyhawks added three quick outs. The top of the second inning saw Zeb Baird add a double to left field, advancing Hunter Neumayer to third. The Golden Tigers were able to force the ground out with Mason Davis at bat, but Neumayer's speed was enough to put the Skyhawks ahead with a score of 2-0. Sam Baker's sacrifice fly to right field increased the Point lead to 3-0. Tuskegee added their first run with a two-RBI triple to cut their deficit to one in the bottom of the second. The Skyhawks extended their lead with two errors from Tuskegee. Point continued their streak of runs in the top of the fourth as Slade Mink added an RBI single to left field to have Daniel Gonzalez sprint home to increase the lead to 6-2. Two errors from the infield on Tuskegee added two more runs and a Jaysen Dower RBI single pushed the lead to 10-2. The Skyhawks did not stop there as Hunter Neumayer scored his second run of the evening on the bases and Zeb Baird followed with taking advantage of a passed ball from the Golden Tigers. Tuskegee could not add another run, ending the game with Point winning with a final score of 12-2.

The Skyhawks will return to the field for their final home SSAC series on Friday, April 19th at 4:00 P.M. and Saturday, April 20th at Noon and 3:00 P.M. Saturday's games will also serve as Senior Day with 11 Seniors scheduled to be honored in between the doubleheader.
