Baseball tames the Golden Tigers in Midweek Matchup

WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 14, 2024) - The Point University Baseball returned to the field for an afternoon midweek non-conference matchup against NCAA Division II, Tuskegee University where the Skyhawks took the win with a final score of 7-2. 

Tuskegee jumped ahead first with a double for the RBI which brought the first run of the matchup in the fourth inning. The Skyhawks were allowed two hits as the game led up to the fifth inning. The tables turned for the Skyhawks as Sam Baker smacked a double which brought the lightning speed of Silas Butler home for the first run. Point followed with a home run from Slade Mink which scored Mink and Sam Baker home to take the lead and add three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Tuskegee kept it close with a single to left field which added their second run to trail 3-2. The home cooking of the Skyhawks started to be put on display with Mason Davis using his speed to advance home which was followed by a sacrifice fly from Rafael Jackson to score their second run of the inning. The lead grew as Silas Butler timed everything at the right time for the home run which scored him and Trent Sheppard home to lead 7-2 and ultimately get the win.

The Skyhawks open Southern States Athletic Conference Play as Point begins their weekend series against William Carey University on Thursday, February 15th starting at 5:00 P.M. The series will continue with a doubleheader of Games two and three on Friday, February 16th at 1:00 and 4:00 P.M.
