Baseball finishes Bluefield (VA) on Sunday with sweep at home

WEST POINT, Ga. (March 5, 2023) – The Point University baseball team played game three of their AAC weekend series with Bluefield (VA) and would win 12-9. The Skyhawks would sweep the series winning all three games against the Rams this weekend.

Game 3 - 12-9

The Skyhawks would get the scoring started in the first inning when Zeb Baird would double right center to score Brett Campbell and Kaleb Podger. Later in the bottom of the first, Slade Mink would score on an error to make it 3-0. The offense of the Skyhawks would add another run in the fourth when Noah Watkins would ground out to the Rams shortstop scoring Slade Mink to make it 4-0. The Rams would add two runs in the top of the fourth to make it a 4-2 score. Zeb Baird would hit a ground ball out in the fifth that would score Slade Mink to make it 5-2. Also in the fifth, Jaysen Dower would single to right field scoring Noah Watkins to make it 6-2. The sixth inning would see the Skyhawks add a run off of Jackson Bush's solo home run to left field to make it 7-2. Slade Mink would ground out later in the sixth, but would score Kaleb Podger to make it 8-2. Jhamante Woods would keep the runs coming when he would single to center scoring Brett Campbell to make it 9-2. The last run of the sixth for the Skyhawks would be when Noah Watkins would single through the right side to score Jhamante Woods to make it a 10-2 game going into the seventh inning. The Rams would rally back in the top of the seventh to score four runs to make it a 10-6 game. In the bottom of the eighth, Alex Marquand would single to right field and score Jackson Bush to make it 11-6. Sam Baker would later single to bring home Noah Watkins to give the Skyhawks a 12-6 lead. The Rams would add three runs in the top of the ninth, but that wasn't enough as the Skyhawks would win game 3, 12-9.

 

On the mound

Carson Curry would get the start for the Skyhawks pitching four innings , allowing two runs on two hits, walking three and striking out three. Salter Greene would pitch the fifth and eventually get the win for the Skyhawks. Greene would throw an inning allowing no runs and scattering two hits. Sage Waters would throw 1.2 innings allowing four earned runs, scattering four hits, walking one and striking out one. Chandler Griggs would come in to finish the seventh and eighth inning. Griggs would allow no runs on one hit, walking one and striking out one batter. Peyton McKinney would throw the ninth inning, allowing three runs on four hits in finsihing the game.

 

Next Game

The baseball team will play at home on Wednesday, March 8 against William Carey (MS) in a nine inning game with the first pitch scheduled for 12:00 P.M.
