Homeruns by Bush and Marquand help dethrone the Knights

WEST POINT, Ga. (February 21, 2023) – The Point University baseball team played home midweek game on Tuesday against Middle Georgia State. The Skyhawks would win the midweek game, 9-4.

The Knights would score one run in the top off the first to make it a quick 1-0 lead for the away team. In the bottom of the first, Alex Marquand would hit a solo homerun to tie the game up at 1-1. The Knights would take the lead back in the top of the second with an RBI single to make it 2-1. The third inning would see the Skyhawks get three runs in during this inning. Zavion Anderson would hit an RBI single to score Jeremiah Martin and Noah Watkins to make it 3-2. Later on in the bottom of the second, Alex Marquand would hit an RBI single to score Zavion Anderson to make it 4-2. Jackson Bush would score in the bottom of the fifth on an error by the Knights second basemen that was hit by Jeremiah Martin to make it 5-2. The Skyhawks would get a big boost in the bottom of the sixth when Jackson Bush would hit a grand slam to make it 9-2. The Knights would get two runs back in the top of the eighth, but the Skyhawks would hold on for the midweek victory with a score of 9-4.

Jackson Bush – 1 for 4; HR (grand slam), 4RBIs, 2R

On the Mound

Daniel Crabtree would get the start on the mound for the Skyhawks pitching five innings, allowing two runs, no earned runs, striking out five and getting the win. Bailey Mara would pitch 3 innings and give up two runs, with one earned and striking out one. Cole Brown would throw the ninth inning, allowing no runs and would strike out two batters.

The Point Skyhawks are back in action on Friday, February 24, when they go on the road for their first conference series against Reinhardt with first pitch at 4:00 P.M. The Skyhawks will play a doubleheader on Saturday, February 25, with the first pitch at 1:00 P.M.
