Volleyball loses in four sets at Reinhardt

WALESKA, Ga. (Oct. 20, 2021) – The Point University volleyball team traveled to face in-state foe Reinhardt Wednesday evening and looked to pick up their second victory of the season over the Eagles in Appalachian Athletic Conference play, but the Skyhawks came up short, dropping the match in four sets (19-25, 25-23, 24-26, 14-25).

Point and Reinhardt went back and forth through the first set until the Eagles jumped ahead 14-7 and Point was unable to make up the distance. Neither team could jump ahead with a significant lead in the second set as there were 12 ties and six lead changes. Tied at 23, Point was able to earn the final two points off a Reinhardt service error, a kill from Goen to even the match 1-1.

The third set was another close matchup as a winner could not be determined by regulation end. The Eagles bounced back in set three, winning 26-24 to regain the match lead. Reinhardt carried its momentum into the fourth set, jumping out to a 7-3 lead, and the Skyhawks were unable to recover.

Senior Kaitlyn Hawke led Point (11-13, 8-8 AAC) with her 10th double-double of the season, recording 36 assists and 15 digs. Mollie Goen led Point at the net with five blocks and 10 kills. Goen was followed by Te'a Owens, who recorded nine kills and 19 digs, Whitney Ward with eight kills and 16 digs, and Sarah Baucham with seven kills. On the defensive end, Madison Bentley recorded a team-high of 22 digs.

Up next, the Skyhawks return to West Point Park Gymnasium for an AAC matchup against St. Andrews University on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 6:30 p.m.
