Volleyball drops AAC match at home

WEST POINT, Ga. (Oct. 12, 2021) – The Point University volleyball team hosted in-state rivals Truett McConnell, Tuesday evening inside West Point Park Gymnasium and fell to the Bears in three sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-20).

The Skyhawks were looking for a redemption victory after falling to the Bears earlier this year. With the loss, the Skyhawks fall to 10-11 (7-7 AAC) and TMU advances to 11-14 (7-6).

The first set was back-and-forth as Point took an early 2-0 lead, but the Bears bounced back, taking a 9-5 lead. The set went on to have seven ties and five lead changes. With the score tied 22-22, the Bears scored the final three points of the set to take a 1-0 lead.

The Bears carried their momentum over into the second set, opening with a 7-2 run. Truett held onto its lead for the entire set, never letting Point take the lead. Truett opened the third set similarly, taking a quick 7-3 lead. Point brought the score back within two (10-8) with a kill by Te'a Owens, but Truett answered with a 5-0 run to extend its lead back out and did not trail by less than three points for the rest of the set.

Owens led Point's offense and defense, recording nine kills and 10 digs. Kaitlyn Hawke and Abby Solomon had 13 and 11 assists apiece.

Up next, Point hits the road for two AAC matches. The first match is against AAC newcomer Johnson University on Friday, Oct. 15, at 6:30 p.m. The Skyhawks travel to Union on Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup.
