Skyhawks sweep Brenau in dominant fashion

WEST POINT, Ga. (Oct. 5, 2021) – Ten members of the Point University volleyball team accounted for 44 kills en route to a sweep over Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Brenau University Tuesday evening inside West Point Park Gymnasium.

The Skyhawks won in three sets (25-18, 25-19, 25-18) and improved their record to 9-9 (6-4 AAC).

Whitney Ward led Point's offense with 10 kills, finishing with a .409 kill percentage. Ward also led Point's defense with nine digs. Following Ward was Madison Bentley and Kaitlyn Hawke with eight digs apiece. Hawke recorded 21 assists and eight digs, and Abby Solomon finished the night with 10 assists.

The Skyhawks used an explosive opening set to gain momentum to carry into the following sets to earn the sweep. Point finished the day with a .347 hitting percentage and 17 of their points in the second set came from kills.

Brenau never led in any set, as the Skyhawks maintained control the entire match. Point opened up the match up on an 8-0 run and in the following two matches, the Skyhawks opened with a 3-0 run. The Skyhawks limited the Golden Tigers to a .141 kill percentage as Point's defense combined for 48 digs and only three reception errors.

Up next, Point travels to Columbia, South Carolina, to face-off against Columbia International University on Friday, Oct. 8, at 6:30 p.m.
