Men's Lacrosse Wins Defensive Strife Against Point

ATHENS, Tenn.- The men's lacrosse team took the field on a rainy and cloudy day on Saturday. The weather did not stop the team from facing Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent, the Point University Skyhawks.

Tennessee Wesleyan raced out to a three-goal to nothing lead. Carson Bowling scored the first goal off a pass from Kennedy Moore. Moore got in on the scoring action with the next goal and Jackson Lollis sent Robert Holekamp's pass into the back of the net to give the Bulldogs their 3-0 lead. Point cut into the lead, scoring the next two goals to cut TWU's advantage to one goal. By the end of the first quarter, the Bulldogs led 5-2. Bowling scored his second goal of the game off a Matthew Tullock assist while Wes Christian scored off AJ Carsto's assist 11 seconds later. 

Defense took over for the next 25 minutes. Neither team scored in entire 15 minutes the second quarter consisted of. After the halftime break, a goal was not scored until 5:34 remained in the third quarter. The goal was scored by Holekamp, moving the team's lead to 6-2 to begin the fourth quarter. 

The final stanza of the game saw as many goals scored as the first three quarters saw the two teams score, eight. Moore moved the team's lead to five goals with the opening goal of the fourth quarter. Point cut it down to four against before a Lollis goal moved it back to five, making the score 8-3. The opponents scored the next two goals to pull the closest they had been since the first quarter, cutting the lead down to three goals. Bowling helped Tennessee Wesleyan extend the lead back to a comfortable margin, assisting on a goal by Christian and then following with a goal of his own to give the team 10 goals. Point scored once more as the Bulldogs held on to win 10-6.

Bowling led the team with three goals. Jack Shaw had nine saves in the win while Jacob Moceri had one save.

TWU (3-6, 1-3 AAC) go on the road for their next two games. The first road game is set for Wednesday, March 20 against a new men's lacrosse team in the conference, Life University. The game is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
