Koalas Wrap-Up Spring Break Road Trip

WEST POINT, GA- Columbia Softball wrapped up its three-game spring break road trip Saturday afternoon at Point University. The Koalas dropped a high-scoring game one, 10-8, then fell in six innings, 10-1, in game two.

The Koalas stand at 6-8 overall and 0-6 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) action after the road trip. The Point Skyhawks improved to 8-10 overall and 2-2 in AAC actions.

GAME ONE:
The Koalas fell behind early when Point brought a run around to score in the bottom of the first inning. The Skyhawks added four more runs in the bottom of the second to take a 5-0 lead after the first two innings.

In the top of the third inning, though, Columbia saw its best scoring output of the season. The Koalas tallied seven runs; the rally started when Skyler Monson earned an RBI by drawing a walk. Kylie Smith and Madison Lee then delivered back-to-back RBI singles. The inning's first two outs were also productive, as Rachel McMillan and Madison Hearn brought runs in on back-to-back sacrifice flys. After that, Madison Wadford joined in on the action with an RBI triple, and Kyra McCarson then brought her around to score with an RBI single.

The Koalas took a 7-5 lead into the bottom of the third, but the host Skyhawks chipped away during their turn at the plate with an RBI double. Point then took the lead back in the bottom of the sixth with two RBI doubles and a passed ball.

Columbia trimmed the lead down to two with Wadford's second RBI of the day, this time on a single, in the top of the seventh but ultimately saw their rally fall short.

GAME TWO:
Point jumped out to an early lead again, scoring once in the first and then adding three more in the second.

The Koalas got on the board in the top of the fourth when McCarson recorded her second RBI of the day on a ground out to second.

Point answered in the bottom of the fifth, all but putting the game away with another three-run half-inning. The Skyhawks tacked on another two runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game with a final of 10-1.
