Women's Basketball Falls in Road Finale

West Point, Ga.- The women's basketball team played their final road game of the regular season on Tuesday. The team traveled to play the Point University Lady Skyhawks in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest.

Yeika Jimenez Diaz scored the first three points of the game. Point scored the next five to take over the lead. Cambree Mayo put the game in a 5-5 tie before five straight points put the Lady Skyhawks ahead by five points. Free throws by Anna Crowder and Jordan Wright were the remaining points for the Lady Bulldogs in the first quarter which ended with Point leading 14-9.

Back-to-back three-point baskets by Jimenez Diaz and Mikalee Martin gave Tennessee Wesleyan a 15-14 lead to open the second quarter. Martin knocked down another three-pointer to tie the game 18-18 after four straight points from the opponents and Wright scored a layup to make the lead 20-18. Mayo broke another tie with her free throws making the score 22-20. Five straight points by the Lady Skyhawks forced the final lead change of the quarter. Free throws by Crowder and a three-point basket by Jaci Powell brought the team within one point of the lead. Back-to-back baskets by Point gave them a 32-27 lead at halftime.

The opponents scored six points to begin the third quarter to put the Lady Bulldogs in a double-digit deficit. A pair of free throws by Jimenez Diaz and Wright brought the team within seven points with the scoreboard reading 38-31. A pair of free throws by Powell brought the team to within seven points of the lead once again with 4:09 in the third but the team could not move closer as Point led 52-38 to begin the final quarter.

Point maintained their double-digit advantage until a jumper by Jimenez Diaz, a pair of free throws by Wright and a free throw by Sierra Bates made the score 59-51, capping a 13-7 run by Lady Bulldogs. TWU was unable to pull closer though, falling by a final score of 64-53.

Jimenez Diaz led the offense with 16 points while Wright added 12 points. Jimenez Diaz also led on the boards with eight rebounds.

The regular season closes for the Lady Bulldogs (17-8, 15-8 AAC) on Saturday. The team will be back home for Senior Day against Union College at 2:00 p.m.
