Men's Basketball Clips Skyhawks

Athens, Tenn.- James L. Robb Gymnasium played host to a men's basketball game on Wednesday. It was the final home game of the year 2022 for the men's basketball team, featuring the Bulldogs taking on the Skyhawks of Point University.

TWU scored the first seven points of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game. Kobe Pride, Ty Patterson, and Peyton West combined to give the team their 7-0 lead. The lead had moved to 13-5 by the midway point of the first half after scores by Jonathan Webb, Patterson, and Elisha Mayberry. Cameron Montgomery's three-pointer put the team on the grip of a double-digit lead with the scoreboard reading 16-7. Back-to-back three-point baskets from Webb and Montgomery gave the team their first double-digit lead with 5:45 remaining in the first half with a 24-13 score. The half closed with another Montgomery three-point basket and a Pride jumper, giving the team a 29-15 lead at the halftime break.

Like the first half, Pride opened the second half with a basket, making the lead 16 points. The team maintained their double-digit advantage as six straight points by Patterson made the score 40-21. With 11 minutes left in the game, the Bulldogs took their largest lead of the contest. After a Ray Tyler three-pointer, Montgomery's layup made the score 48-27 to give Tennessee Wesleyan a 21-point advantage. Point made a late run at the lead, cutting the Bulldogs' lead down to as low as seven points. Back-to-back free throws made by West and Mayberry helped the team turn the seven-point lead into an 11-point, 62-51 victory.

Montgomery and Patterson finished with 13 points each. West added 11 points while Patterson led on the glass with nine rebounds.

TWU (7-1, 6-1 AAC) will close out the year 2022 on the road, first beginning with an AAC game against Bluefield University on Saturday. Tip is set for 4:00 p.m.
