Bio

Point University Athletic Director Jaunelle White promoted Andrew Welch to the athletic department’s Head Athletic Trainer effective Nov. 2021. 

Welch served as the department's interim head athletic trainer since the beginning of the 2021 fall season. 

Welch will lead a staff of three sports medicine professionals that cover 19 sports and treat over 400 student-athletes. Welch will continue to serve as the primary athletic trainer contact for women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s basketball, men’s golf and softball.

Welch has been a part of the sports medicine staff at Point since the summer of 2020. He played an integral role in keeping student-athletes and staff safe during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and has served on the Point University COVID advisory board since the summer of 2021.

Prior to coming to Point, Welch spent two years serving as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at SWAC Conference member Mississippi Valley State University, where he oversaw the Delta Devils women's soccer, volleyball, men's & women's indoor track & field, and softball programs. Welch also helped develop and implement emergency action plans and oversaw the sports medicine department's ordering and budgeting. Welch also spent a year among the Alabama High School ranks.

A 2017 and 2020 graduate of the University of West Alabama, Welch earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic training with a minor in Exercise Science and his Master of Science degree in Physical Education- Sports Management. During his tenure at UWA, he learned under athletic trainers in the various domains of athletic training while assisting in the coverage of football, men's & women's soccer, women's volleyball, baseball, and men's & women's cross country and triathlon teams.
