Men's Soccer drops opener on the road

WALESKA, Ga. (Aug. 26, 2023) - The Point University men's soccer team would head on the road against former AAC foe Reinhardt. The Skyhawks would take the pitch at Ken White Field in Waleska, Ga, for their season opener and would fall in a heartbreaker by the score of 2-1.
 
FIRST HALF
The game commenced with a burst of energy from both teams, each aiming to establish dominance early on. In the 5th minute, the Skyhawks drew first blood as Tommy Eskew expertly converted a goal. Brandon Cervantes' pinpoint assist set up the opportunity, showcasing the synergy between the two players. With this early lead, Point University Skyhawks took control of the field, applying pressure to Reinhardt's defense. As the half progressed, both teams engaged in a tactical battle, vying for possession and attempting to break through each other's defensive lines. The Skyhawks' goalkeeper, Simon Niksch, emerged as a pivotal figure, making a series of impressive saves to deny Reinhardt's attempts to equalize. The Skyhawks would head to the locker room with a 1-0 lead at the half.
 
SECOND HALF
The second half kicked off with Reinhardt determined to turn the tide in their favor. In the 61st minute, Maxime Correia's brilliance came to the fore as he skillfully maneuvered past defenders and unleashed a stunning shot that found the net. Correia's unassisted goal breathed new life into the match, reigniting Reinhardt's hopes of a comeback. In the 64th minute, Reinhardt continued their offensive surge. Maxime Correia turned provider this time, setting up Anthony Robledo for a clinical finish that extended Reinhardt's lead to 2-1.
 
YELLOW CARDS
The intensity of the match was not limited to the scoring action. Next Match: The men's soccer team will travel to NCAA Div 3 LaGrange College on Wednesday, September 6 at 7:00 P.M. This matchup will have both colleges in Troup County facing off against each other in a non-conference matchup.
