Eagles Come from Behind to Win Against the Skyhawks
Waleka, GA - Although it is early, the Eagles are off to a solid start staying undefeated with a come-from-behind win against former AAC rival - Point Univeristy.
The Skyhawks scored in the first five minutes of the game when a cross was tapped in by Point University forward that narrowly got past the outreached arms of starting goalkeeper, Elijah Clark. This would be the only one that would get past Clark as he continues his fast start stopping six of seven shots on goal.
The backline led by Raphael Mospanyuk, Brady Craig, & Ivan Pata kept Point from getting another goal for the remainder of the game and allowed the attackers for the Eagles a chance to get back in the game.
The Eagles would go into halftime with a 1-0 deficit, but it would not take long for the Eagles to get on the board and tie the game. In the sixty-first minute of the game, a breakaway pass was given to Maxime Correia who took it up the left side of the field and was taken down from behind inside the box. The referee signaled a penalty kick which Correia buried in the right side of the goal after faking the keeper to go left with his stuttered run-up. The game was tied 1-1 with less than a half hour to play.
The second half had more of an attacking feel by the Eagles which happened after a few halftime adjustments from new Head Coach Frankie Ruiz. One of the moves paid off as Anthony Robledo was moved to more of a center striker position, which allowed him to get more shots on goal. One of those shots was nailed to the back of the Skyhawks' net from a corner kick from Correia.
The Eagles would go up 2-1 after trailing since the first five minutes of the game. The final twenty-five minutes of the game would have the Eagles defending a strong attack by Point trying to get the equalizing goal. They had a few good opportunities, but Clark, Mospanyuk, and others would hold on to keep the Eagles lead and finish out the game with another good result for the Eagles.
The schedule does not get any easier for the Eagles as they will face a tough Life University team on the road this Wednesday evening. The team will return for another Saturday night under the lights at Ken White Field with a matchup with Cumberland (TN).
