Sameily Marquez earns SSAC Volleyball Attacker of the Week

WEST POINT, Ga. (Oct. 16, 2023) - The Southern States Athletic Conference announced the Volleyball Player of the Week honors on Monday, October 16th. Sameily Marquez was named the SSAC Volleyball Attacker of the Week.  

The Junior of Arroyo, Puerto Rico, had a season-high 18 kills against Loyola University-New Orleans on Friday, October 13th. Marquez also added 15 digs, two blocks, and one service ace in the five-setter against the Wolfpack. Marquez followed her performance in the following match against William Carey, where the Junior had 14 kills and was close to her second consecutive double-double game where she had nine digs. Over both matches, she totaled 32 kills and 24 digs while hitting .256 as the Skyhawks went 1-1 over the weekend. Marquez has started to step into a prominent role of giving opponents problems when she attacks with power each time. Sameily Marquez's focus on the court as she has been on a different level of playing each set like it is her last, which is put on display each time she takes the court. Marquez looks to keep her focus on helping her team win and make a run as far as finishing the regular season before the conference tournament. This is the first weekly honor for Marquez.
