Momentum from 3rd Set, not enough to propel Skyhawks over Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. (Sept. 29, 2023) - The Point University Volleyball team returned to the court for an afternoon road Southern States matchup against the University of Mobile, where the Skyhawks would lose in four sets to the Rams.

Set One (19-25, Loss)

The match between Point University Skyhawks and the University of Mobile Rams began with a dynamic exchange of kills and errors from both sides. The Rams took an early lead with successful blocks from Kendel Lee Frazer and Jordan Wood. The Skyhawks, not to be outdone, saw critical kills from Paige Lowe and Aaliyah Lobendahn. However, Mobile managed to maintain momentum, benefiting from service aces by players like Corrina Porch-Maxey and a series of kill shots from Corrina and Kendel Lee Frazer. The Skyhawks tried to close the gap with kills from Tianna Kynard and Aaliyah Lobendahn, but service errors from players like Claire Cordell gave the Rams the advantage they needed to clinch the set at 25-19.

Set Two (20-25, Loss)

The Skyhawks entered the second set eager to level the score, beginning with a kill by Aaliyah Lobendahn. But the Rams' Corrina Porch-Maxey and Kendel Lee Frazer continued to be a formidable force, delivering a series of successful kills. Point's Sameily Marquez and Tianna Kynard made valiant efforts with kills and blocks, but errors by players such as Aaliyah Lobendahn and Emma Parker hindered their progress. Mobile steadily built their lead, punctuated by key kills from Aleah Kennedy and Kendel Lee Frazer, ending the set in their favor again, 25-20.

Set Three (32-30, Win)

Mobile's Corrina Porch-Maxey continued to be a thorn in the side of the Skyhawks, but errors from the Rams, including attack errors from Dazsha Dean and Aleah Kennedy, allowed the Skyhawks to pull ahead. Both teams seemed evenly matched, with neither able to establish a significant lead. The back-and-forth culminated in a nail-biting finish, with the Skyhawks narrowly emerging victorious, 32-30.

Set Four (21-25, Loss)

Riding the momentum from their third-set victory, the Skyhawks started strong with kills from Sameily Marquez, Tianna Kynard, and Jadakate Judkins. But Mobile's Kendel Lee Frazer and Corrina Porch-Maxey retaliated with their signature kills. Mobile began to pull away, capitalizing on errors from the Skyhawks.
