Volleyball gets road SSAC sweep at Stillman

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Sept. 29, 2023) - The Point University Volleyball team returned to the court for an evening road Southern States matchup against Stillman College, where the Skyhawks swept the Tigers. 

Set One (25-15, Win) 

The set began with the Skyhawks taking a significant 7-0 lead, highlighted by kills from Aaliyah Lobendahn, Jadakate Judkins, and Paige Lowe. Stillman College took a timeout after the 7-0 run. After the timeout, Stillman started to rally, managing to score points, but the Skyhawks remained in control, extending their lead. The set continued with the Skyhawks maintaining a steady lead, and Stillman occasionally scoring but was unable to close the gap. The set concluded at 25-15 in favor of Point after a kill by Tianna Kynard.

Set Two (25-18, Win) 

Point started strong again, leading 6-1. Stillman, however, showed more resistance in this set, managing to reduce the deficit multiple times. Stillman College even took a timeout at 11-5 to re-strategize. The efforts paid off as they went on a run, narrowing the lead. Despite the efforts, the Skyhawks held their ground and managed to win the set 25-18 with a concluding attack error Raine Patterson from Stillman. 

Set Three (25-22, Win) 

Point's early lead was countered by Stillman, who managed to take the lead at 5-7. The set was neck-and-neck, with both teams trading points. Stillman showed resilience, maintaining their lead for a good portion of the set. However, Point managed to level things up and took the set 25-22, securing their overall victory.

In the Box 

Sameily Marquez led with 10 kills for the Skyhawks. Aaliyah Lobendahn followed with seven kills and three digs. Tianna Kynard led the team with two blocks and added four kills. Paige Lowe led the way in the assists category with 23 assists, followed by Emily Calhoun, who would add 13 assists.

The Skyhawks will return to action on the road in Mobile, Alabama, for a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against University of Mobile on Saturday, September 30th, starting at 2:00 P.M. Eastern.
