Skyhawks compete at SWU GottaRun Invite

CENTRAL, S.C. (April 3, 2022) – The Point University men's and women's distance track teams competed in the SWU Gotta Run Invite Friday and Saturday, hosted by Southern Wesleyan University.

The Skyhawks started the weekend invitational off with Micah Burdette qualifying for the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship in the men's 5k. Burdette set a new personal best as he ran the 5k in 16:32.72 and finished in 11th place.

Also competing on Friday was Hayley Akbari, who became the first member of the Point distance track program to throw the javelin. Akbari came in 19th place with a mark of 21.92m. Akbari competed in the 800 on Friday, alongside Macy Babbs, and finished in 39th with a time of 3:04.73 and Babbs finished in 41st with a time of 3:27.16. On the men's side, Jacob Copeland finished 33rd in the men's 800 with a time of 2:17.43.

On Saturday, Chazmere Anderson started Point's day by becoming the first female athlete to compete in the 100 for the Skyhawks and finished in 40th with a time of 14.18. On the men's side of the 100 meters, Javien Leeks finished in 25th place with a time of 11.73 and Christian Hodgins finished in 39th with a time of 12.22.

In the men's 200, Leeks finished in 19th with a time of 23.25 and Hodgins finished in 43rd with a time of 25:14.

Burdette rounded out the Skyhawks' second day of competition by competing in the men's 3k and finished in 14th place with a time of 9:46.23.

Point will return to action on Saturday, April 9, as they compete in the Annual Alice Coachman Invitational in Albany, Ga.
