Toppers climb over the Skyhawks in SSAC matchup

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Ms. (Feb. 8, 2024) - The Point University Women's Basketball team hit the road for a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against Blue Mountain Christian University where the Skyhawks dropped the matchups to the Toppers with a final score of 58-41.

The Toppers started off the game with a 10-1 run over the Skyhawks. Ky'Leo Worriels halted the Toppers' run with a layup in hopes of jumpstarting the Skyhawks' offense. Ananda Hughley cuts into the Topper lead with a putback layup making the score 12-5. Jada Williams and Ananda Hughley added to the Skyhawks' offensive push with four points making the score 15-9. The second quarter opened with Destinee Ellison connecting with Ananda Hughley on a three-pointer. Blue Mountain countered the quick offensive attack from the Skyhawks by going on an 11-4 run to end the half 32-16.

The Skyhawks came out of the half firing scoring 10 points to reduce the lead down to 14. Both opponents continued to trade baskets until the end of the game with Destinee Ellison scoring the last basket to end the game 58-41.

In the Box

Ky'Leo Worriels led with 10 Points, six rebounds, one assist, and one blocked shot. Ananda Hughley contributed off the bench with nine points.
