Women’s Basketball falls to #15 Loyola on the road

NEW ORLEANS, La. (Jan. 18, 2024) - The Point University Women's Basketball team returned to the court for a road Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against #15 Loyola University where the Skyhawks fell 93-44.  

The first quarter began with Ky'Leo Worriels converting on a jumper to bring the score to 4-2 with the Skyhawks trailing. Loyola scored the following four points until Mataea Boyd halted a potential run with a jump shot. The Wolfpack followed with a 12-2 run to extend the lead to 19-6. Chinedu Nnadi came off the bench intending to bring energy on display as Nnadi scored her first six points on two three-pointers to bring their deficit to 24-12. 

Chinedu Nnadi opened the second quarter in the scoring column as she could not miss with the first two scores belonging to Nnadi as she made a jumper and a three-pointer to cut Loyola's lead to single digits. Mataea Boyd followed by responding to the Wolfpack's score on the following possession to keep the game at single digits. Chinedu Nnadi continued to be in the zone as she made her third triple of the game to bring the score 29-22 with Loyola leading. Loyola extended their lead to double digits with a 9-2 run but Shakira Wilson would convert on the three-pointer to halt another run. Ky'Leo Worriels followed with a jumper to end the first with the Skyhawks trailing 39-27.  

The third period opened with Shakira Wilson and Ky'Leo Worriels scoring the first points for the Skyhawks in the early going. The Wolfpack would go on to end the third period with a 13-0 run to lead 62-35 to go into the final period of play. Jhakia Gist opened the final period with a score for Point which was followed by scores from Lanee Edwards and Jada Williams. Jhakia Gist scored the final points for the Skyhawks as Point fell to Loyola 93-44.  

In the Box 

Chinedu Nnadi led 14 Points, three rebounds, and one assist. Ky'Leo Worriels followed with nine points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots. Shakira Wilson added seven points, two assists, and two steals.

The Skyhawks will continue their road trip as Point travels to the South Alabama area to take on the University of Mobile for a road SSAC matchup on Saturday, January 20th starting at 1:00 P.M.
